Move Over Mufasa Simba Is Taking The Throne

The Lion King Prequel Gets New Release Date

Move Over Mufasa, Simba is taking the throne

The Lion King is set to roar back into theaters this December with a brand-new plot and star-studded cast.

Originally set for release in July, The Lion King has been pushed back to December 20, 2024. The delay is due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike which saw voice actors walk off the job in protest of unfair pay and working conditions.

The upcoming film is directed by Barry Jenkins and features the voice talents of Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Aaron Pierre, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Simba, now king of the Pride Lands, is determined to raise his cub to follow in his footsteps.

The Lion King is the latest in a long line of successful Disney prequels, following in the footsteps of The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. With its all-star cast and promising plot, The Lion King is poised to be another box office smash.

The original 1994 Lion King is considered one of Disney's most successful properties, grossing $960 million worldwide. The 2019 CGI-animated remake grossed an impressive $1.6 billion at the global box office.

The Lion King is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2024. Watch the official trailer below:
