Youngster Cup Enters its Third Year, Gspurning Gets One Match Ban

Bo Svensson has been appointed as the new head coach of Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin. The announcement was made on the club's official website on Friday, May 17th. Svensson will officially take over the reins on July 1st, 2023.

Svensson, 44, joins Union Berlin from Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg, where he has been in charge since 2019. Under Svensson's leadership, Salzburg won two league titles and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League in 2022.

Union Berlin are currently ninth in the Bundesliga standings with 39 points from 34 matches. They have one game remaining in the season, against Borussia Mönchengladbach on May 27th.

In other news, Union Berlin's Youngster Cup will enter its third year in 2023. The tournament will be held from July 31st to August 2nd and will feature eight teams from across Europe. Union Berlin's U19 team will be competing in the tournament.

Finally, Union Berlin goalkeeper Lennart Gspurning has been handed a one-match ban by the German Football Association (DFB) for his red card in the club's 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig on May 14th.
